DUSHANBE, March 28, Asia-Plus – Tajik parliamentarians have approved a bill requiring amendments to the country’s law on evaluation of lands.

A regular sitting of the third session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) of the third convocation presided over by its speaker, Saydullo Khairulloyev, was held on March 28.

Akramsho Felaliyev, the head of the Majlisi Namoyandagon Committee on Agriculture and Employment, presenting the bill noted that it is aimed at improving the present law on the evaluation of lands and bringing it into compliance with other laws and president’s decree on a new structure of the executive power.

According to him, a total area under crops in the country amounts to 714,000 hectares, including some 500,000 hectares of irrigated lands.   “We should efficiently use every inch of farmland,” Felaliyev said.

He noted that adoption of the amendments will promote rational and fair taxation of farming units.  “Holders of areas with lower productivity will pay lower taxes,” MP said.

Parliamentarians also endorsed amendments to the country’s laws on defense and land-tenure regulations.
