DUSHANBE, March 31, Asia-Plus – Thirty-two years ago, on March 31, 1975, Tajik Aluminum Plant produced its first aluminum bar.

Since that time, TadAZ has been gaining authority as producer of high-quality primary aluminum year after year, press released issued by TadAZ said.

TadAZ, the only producer of primary aluminum in Central Asia, plays an important role in development of Tajikistan’s industry.  The plant’s output accounts for some 43 percent of the total volume of production of industrial goods in the country.

In 2006, TadAZ’s output accounted for 75.3 percent of Tajik exports, according to press release.

“For achievements made in production of primary aluminum, contribution made to promoting integration of Tajikistan’s economy into world market, as well as for production of high-quality and competitive production has been awarded “Gold Star”, “Platinum Start”, “Gold Globe”, and “Diamond Star,” press release said.

According to press release, the plant cooperates with many known foreign companies.  Thus, TadAZ in December 2006 concluded a cooperation agreement with Norway’s Hydro Aluminium.  Under this agreement, Hydro Aluminium will buy 800,000 tons of primary aluminum from TadAZ over the next four years and will annually provide the Tajik Aluminum Plant with 150,000 tons of alumina, the raw material used to produce aluminum.

More than 13,000 people, including 2,400 women, now work with TadAZ.
