DUSHANBE, May 2, Asia-Plus – A three-day visit of Iran’s Defense Minister Brigadier General Mustafa Mohammad Najjar to Tajikistan has resulted in signing of a protocol on military and technical cooperation between the defense ministries of the two countries, according to the Tajik ministry of defense (MoD). 

The source at a MoD said that the protocol was inked by Tajik Defense Minister Sherali Khairulloyev and his Iranian counterpart, Brigadier General Mustafa Mohammad Najjar, at the Tajik MoD today morning.  

In the course of the talks, the defense ministers of Tajikistan and Iran discussed issues related to further expansion of military and technical cooperation between the two countries and strengthening regional security.  

“Today is the 10th anniversary of the establishment of defense relations between Tajikistan and Iran and over the report period, 10 agreements on military and technical cooperation have been singed between the two countries,” the source said, noting that Iran has provided $6 million worth of military and technical assistance to Tajikistan over the past ten years.  The assistance included military uniforms for Tajik servicemen and training of military personnel for Tajik army, the source said.  

The source further added that Tajik MoD has to date signed cooperation agreements with 45 countries.  “Besides, it has established cooperation with another 31 countries on separate subjects,” the MoD source said.  

The three-day visit of Mustafa Mohammad Najjar was held at an official invitation of Tajik Defense Minister Sherali Khairulloyev as part of the rotating meetings of Iranian and Tajik ministers of defense.
