The deputy chief of the Khatlon police directorate for Kulob, Colonel Abdurahmon Buzmakov, said that 11.857 kilograms of heroin were intercepted in the Mouminobod district.

According to him, officers from the drug police spotted and tried to detain five drug traffickers in the district on April 25.  They later fired at the drug traffickers after the last attempted to flee.  “One of drug traffickers was killed and two others were wounded,” the Kulob police official said, noting that four drug traffickers, including those two wounded, managed to flee.  Search operation is under way.

Another operation carried out by drug police in the Hamadoni district on April 29 led to the seizure of 50 kilograms of raw opium.  According to Buzmakov, they received information about two wounded Afghans from residents of one of villages in the Hamadoni district.  “As a result of the operation four Afghans with 50 kilograms of raw opium and one sub-machine-gun Kalashnikov were detained,” Colonel Buzmakov said.
