DUSHANBE, May 8, Asia-Plus Душанбе – The exact number of teachers and pupils at new school opened at Russian-Tajik Slavic University (RTSU) in Dushanbe not yet been determined, the School principle Natalia Kuchkova said.

According to her, at present 630 pupils are studying at their school, while it is capable to accommodate 850 pupils.

She noted that educational program and other organizational issues had also not been solved yet.  “A special commission from Moscow will arrive in Dushanbe this month to solve these issues,” said Kuchkova, “We are currently projecting the educational programs, taking into consideration the national component; pupils at our school will study disciplines such as history of Tajikistan, geography of Tajikistan and the Tajik language alongside other subjects provided for by the Russian educational program.”

The school was established on the basis of School # 14 that had earlier been under jurisdiction of the Russian border service’s directorate in Tajikistan.

After withdrawal of Russian border troops from Tajikistan in 2005, over the past two years, the school had operated under financial support of Russia’s Volnoye Delo Charity Foundation and the representative office of RusAl in Dushanbe, Kuchkova said.

Under an agreement signed between the education ministries of the two countries in Moscow in April, the school was given a new status – structural sub-division of RTSU in Dushanbe.

An official opening of the school was held on May 5. Tajik Education Minister Abdujabbor Rahmonov and his Russian counterpart, Andrey Fursenko, attended the ceremony.
