DUSHANBE, May 29, Asia-Plus — A five-day military exercise for Tajik power-wielding structures is ongoing in Gorno Badakhshan.

The exercise that was launched at the training ground Tem, some 16 kilometers of Khorog, on May 26 involves sub-units of mobile and ground forces, as well as border troops, National Guards, interior troops and the committee for emergency situations deployed in the region.  The exercise will last till May 30.   

According to the ministry of defense (MoD), the main purpose of the three-phased exercise to rehearse cooperation and interaction in protection of border and the facilities of statewide importance as well as removing disaster effects.  

The complete exercise is to involve armored personnel carriers (APCs), transport and combat helicopters along with various weapons and will close on May 30 with a final phase featuring practice-shoot missions.  

The source at a MoD said that flag officers from Tajikistan’s Armed Forces will observe the final phase of the exercise.
