DUSHANBE, June 18, Asia-Plus — The third conference of the organization of the Movement for National Unity and Revival of Tajikistan (MNURT), known in Tajik a the Harakati Vahdati Milli va Ehyoi Tojikiston, for Dushanbe was held at the Kokhi Vahdat State Complex in Dushanbe on June 16.  

Speaking at the conference, Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev, capital mayor also head of the MNURT organization for Dushanbe, noted that one of important measures taken after the previous conference was adoption of a code of residents of the capital city.  

“Many initiatives of the Movement have come into being in Dushanbe and it is not accidental that UNSECO announced our capital city the City of Peace,” the capital mayor said.  

Reminding that the 80th anniversary of Dushanbe was marked in 2004, Ubaidulloyev noted that the project for construction of a water park in Dushanbe has, unfortunately remained unfinished.  “However, we will finish the project and resolve dispute with Turkish company that was building this facility through international audit,” Ubaidulloyev said.  

The conference delegates, representing various political parties, public associations, ethnic communities and clerics, elected new membership of the board of the MNURT organization for Dushanbe as well as delegates to represent Dushanbe at the MNURT republican conference.  

The Movement for National Unity and Revival in Tajikistan (MNURT) is Tajikistan”s largest political movement.  It is sponsored by the government and chaired by President Rahmon.  The MNURT was formed in July 1997 and registered that August.  It declared its aim as the unification of “different social layers and forces of Tajikistan and the establishment of a stable civil accord, mutual trust and agreement.”  The movement incorporates representatives of all regions and political parties and associations.  The MNURT is ruled by a general assembly of founding organizations and governed by an executive council of elected and appointed representatives of all member organizations.  Its chair, President Rahmon, heads an executive committee elected by this council.
