DUSHANBE, June 18, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan’s upper chamber (Majlisi Milli) of parliament considered issues related to preparations for the second Tajik-Russian inter-parliamentary forum at a June 14 meeting presided over by its speaker Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev.

Shavkat Saidov, an aide to the Majlisi Milli chairman for public relations, told Asia-Plus that the second inter-parliamentary forum will be held in Moscow on September 17-18.

The Majlisi Milli speaker noted at the meeting that the objective of this event is to seek new efficient mechanisms of implementation of various agreements concluded between Tajikistan and Russia.

According to Ubaidulloyev, the first Tajik-Russian inter-parliamentary forum that was held in Dushanbe on August 24-26 last year paved the way for further expansion of cooperation between the regions of the two countries.  The first inter-parliamentary forum resulted in signing of 19 protocols, two treaties, five agreements and five memoranda.

“The June 14 meeting set up a steering committee for the forum as well as working groups for legal matters, labor migrations, economy and trade, as well as humanitarian cooperation,” Shavkat Saidov said.

During the meeting, it was noted that within the next two weeks, authorized bodies will prepare and submit for consideration specific proposals on implementation of the signed cooperation documents that will be discussed at the upcoming forum,” the aide said.

“The meeting participants also noted that to protect rights of Tajik labor migrants working in the Russian Federation, concrete proposals will be projected on amendments to the current Russian migration legislation,” Shavkat Saidov said, noting all decisions were seconded by Russian Ambassador to Tajikistan Ramazan Abdulatipov.
