DUSHANBE, July 9, Asia-Plus — The jury for selecting the best design for reconstruction of the Dushanbe Central Park named after Abuabdulloh Rudaki met in Dushanbe on July 6.

Shavkat Saidov, a spokesman for the Dushanbe mayor, told Asia-Plus that two Tajik sculptors – Amriddin Aminov, who currently lives in France, and Shahriyor Mukhtorov – had won the competition on the best design of the memorial complex to the founder of Tajik-Persian literature Abuabdulloh Rudaki and they will work out drafts of the Rudaki memorial complex.

The capital mayor Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev speaking at the meeting noted that the monument should be seven meters in height and reflect philosophy and democratic nature of Tajik people.

Both sculptors should submit their drafts to the commission before September 3.

According the spokesman, a decision on selection of the best design will be made only after the resolution of special institutes of the Russian Federation.

Ubaidulloyev stressed that due to funds provided by the Dushanbe mayor’s office for the Rudaki monument the competition winner will be able to set up professional studio in Dushanbe, he spokesman said.

Abuabdulloh Jafar Ibn Mohammad Rudaki (

-.

) was a Tajik-Persian poet, and the first great literary genius of modern Tajik-

Persian language

, who composed poems in the “New Persian”

Perso-Arabic alphabet

script.  Rudaki is considered a founder of Tajik-

Persian classical literature

.  He was born in the village of Rudak in the district of Panjakent, Tajikistan, in 858.  Most of his biographers assert that he was totally

blind

, but the accurate knowledge of colors shown in his poems makes this very doubtful. He was the court poet to the

Samanid

ruler

Nasr II

(

) in

Bukhara

, but he eventually fell out of favor and ended his life in poverty.
