DUSHANBE, July 11, Asia-Plus — Tajik Mine Action Cell (TMAC) has organized a summer rehabilitation camp for 25 antipersonnel mine victims.

The TMAC director Jonmahmad Rajabov said that the camp had been organized in the territory of the interior ministry’s resort area Sadbarg in Romit.  “During twelve days, the antipersonnel mine victims will receive medical and psychological help and have the rest,” he  said.

According to him, over the past four years, rehabilitation activities organized by the TMAC  have covered 75 antipersonnel mine victims across the country.

“Since 2005, we have annually sent 25 antipersonnel mine victims from districts subordinate to the center, Gorno Badakhshan, Sughd and Khatlon  to this rehabilitation camp,” Rajabov said.

In the meantime, demining operations in the Rasht valley, Darvoz, Panj, Rudaki and Hamadoni districts are under way.  “This year alone, demining teams have cleared 60,000 square meters of land and neutralized more than 900 landmines and 120 unexploded ordnances,” the TMAC director said.

According to Rajabov, over the first six months of the year, landmines have killed four persons and injured three more in Tajikistan.
