DUSAHNBE, August 14, Asia-Plus – Itar Tass — Russia intends to “make maximum use” of UN collective mechanisms and capabilities for neutralizing regional security challenges from international terrorism and extremism, as well as for promoting economic development in the CIS, the Foreign Ministry said on Monday after consultations with CIS states ahead of the upcoming 62nd session of the UN General Assembly to open on September 18.

“It is necessary to further deepen practical interaction and coordination between the CIS states on a number of the upcoming session’s agenda that are most pressing issues for the CIS,” the ministry said.

“The participants in the consultations were unanimous in their assessment of the significance of the upcoming session that is called upon to consolidate the efforts of the international community in the fight against global challenges and threats, as well as help increase the effectiveness of the UN collective security system,” the ministry said.

Officials from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, and the CIS Executive Committee took part in the consultations.
