DUSHANBE, August 14, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan is expected to be represented by 60 artistes in the Third Arts Festival of the Shanghai cooperation Organization (SCO), which will be held in the Kyrgyz capital city of Bishkek from August 14 to 18, according to the Ministry of Culture (MoC).

Gulmurod Maliyev (phonetically spelled), the head of the culture directorate of the MoC, said that ensembles Falak, Zebo, Gulrez, soloists of the Opera and Ballet Theatre, as well as a number of variety singers will represent the country in the SCO arts festival in Bishkek.  

Cultural cooperation occurred in the SCO framework mainly in 2002.  Culture ministers of the SCO met for the first time in Beijing on April 12, 2002, signing a joint statement for continued cooperation. The third meeting of the Culture Ministers took place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on April 27-28, 2006.

E will recall that the next SCO summit will be held in Bishkek on August 16, 2007.  The summit is expected to outline the priorities and main directions of further partnership between member nations of the Organization.   

MoC official added that the ministry is currently making preparations or holding of days of Tajik Culture in Kazakhstan.  The event is expected to open in Kazakhstan on August 21 and run through August 27.  According to him,  an exhibition of works by Tajik painters and a concert with participation of Tajik variety singers will be held on sidelines of the event.
