QURGHON TEPPA, August 22, Asia-Plus — An endocrinology hospital with a total of 20 beds has been put into operation in Qurghon Teppa, the capital of the Khatlon province.   

Zokirjon Kholov, the director of the Khatlon Regional Endocrinology Center, told Asia-Plus that it is still the only endocrinology hospital in the province.  According to him, four doctors and enough number of nurses now work the hospital.  

Kholov noted that Khatlon, which has more than 55,000 people suffering from various endocrinal diseases, has urgent needs in such hospitals.  “We plan to open the similar hospital in Kulob as well,” the Khatlon Endocrinology Center director said.  

According to figures provided by the Khatlon Regional Endocrinology Center, more than 50,000 people suffering from goiter and more than 5,000 diabetics have to date been officially registered in the province.
