DUSHANBE, September 4, Asia-Plus — Cotton-growing farms in the northern Sughd province that launched the cotton-harvesting campaign on September 1 have yielded 872 kilograms of raw cotton by September 3, according to the industrial crops department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection (MoAEP).

On Sunday alone, the Sughd cotton farmers produced 566 tons of cotton.  Sughd has pledged to produce 171,300 tons of cotton this year.  Last year, the Sughd province produced 131,566 tons of cotton. 

We will recall that the Khatlon province have reached nearly 14 percent of its cotton target by September 3, having yielded 45,693 tons of cotton yielding 45,693 tons of cotton by Monday.   The target of the southern Khatlon province for this year is 330,500 tons. 

The districts subordinate to the center (RRPs) have pledged to yield 48,200 tons of cotton this year.

The republic has yielded 46,773 tons of cotton by Monday.  The national target for 2007 has been determined at 550,000 tons of cotton.
