DUSHANBE, September 4, Asia-Plus — An enlarged meeting of the jury for the Dushanbe central park reconstruction contest that was held yesterday to select The best draft for reconstruction of the Dushanbe Central Park named after Abduabdulloh Rudaki has not determined the winner.

We will recall that two Tajik sculptors – Amriddin Aminov, who currently lives in France, and Shahriyor Mukhtorov – have been selected to work out drafts of the Rudaki memorial complex.

The Dushanbe city authorities noted that the monument should be seven meters in height and reflect philosophy and democratic nature of Tajik people.

Although the jury gave preference for Aminov’s draft the competition was extended to September 25 because known Moscow sculptor also dean of faculty at the Russian Academy of Arts, Professor Aleksandr Rukavishnikov was also invited to participate in the competition.

Abuabdulloh Jafar Ibn Mohammad Rudaki (858-941) was a Tajik-Persian poet, and the first great literary genius of modern Tajik-Persian language

, who composed poems in the “New Persian” Perso-Arabic alphabet script.  Rudaki is considered a founder of Tajik-Persian classical literature

.  He was born in the village of Rudak in the district of Panjakent, Tajikistan, in 858.  Most of his biographers assert that he was totally blind

, but the accurate knowledge of colors shown in his poems makes this very doubtful. He was the court poet to the Samanid ruler Nasr II (914-943) in Bukhara, but he eventually fell out of favor and ended his life in poverty.
