DUSHANBE, September 19, Asia-Plus — President Emomali Rahmon, who is currently on his official visit to Kyrgyzstan, today in Bishkek held a short meeting with representatives of the Tajik Diaspora in Kyrgyzstan.

We will recall that yesterday, during the first days of the official visit of President Rahmon to Kyrgyzstan, the sides signed an agreement on regulation of processes of resettlement and protection of rights of immigrants.  This document provides for supporting ethnic Kyrgyz living in Tajikistan and ethnic Tajiks living in Kyrgyzstan.

Yesterday, President Rahmon held talks with his Kyrgyz counterpart, President Kurmanbek Bakiyev, in Bishkek.

In the course of the talks Kyrgyz president noted that there are all prerequisites for strengthening Kyrgyz-Tajik cooperation.

According to him, the visit will promote “raising bilateral relations to a higher level, both in trade and economic and other spheres.”  “A sitting of the Kyrgyz-Tajik intergovernmental commission was held in Kyrgyzstan in September to discuss many issues,” Bakiyev said. “Some of these issues were reflected in the documents which we are ready to sign today.” It is expected that, according to the results of the talks, several agreements on cooperation in the sphere of economy, culture and the agro-industrial complex will be signed.

For his part, Rahmon expressed confidence that these documents “will give a powerful impetus to further expansion of bilateral cooperation in all directions.”  “We, our states are the closest neighbors, relatives. Tajikistan is ready to develop bilateral cooperation with Kyrgyzstan just in all directions,” Rahmon stressed.

According to Tajik president, there are “very big reserves and possibilities” for it. He also wished to intensify the fulfillment of the earlier reached bilateral agreements at all levels.
