DUSHANBE, September 19, Asia-Plus — UK-based company Tetis Tajikistan Limited (TTL) will start exploration of gas and oil reserves of the Beshtinchak field in southern Tajikistan tomorrow, Asia-plus has learned at the Ministry of Energy and Industries (MoEI).
The source at a MoEI said that the company intends to invest $8 million in the preliminary work on exploration of this field.
An agreement on exploration of oil and gas reserves of the Beshtinchak field between TTL and Tajikistan’s state-controlled Southern Oil-and-Gas-Producing Company, designed for seven years, was signed in Dushanbe on September 6.
According to specialists, the aggregate raw-materials resources of the oil and gas bearing areas in Tajikistan amount to about 1,000 billion tons of reference fuel, including 863 billion cubic meters of natural gas and 163 million tons of oil. At the same time, production work at oil and gas fields require considerable expenditure, since hydrocarbon deposits occur at depths ranging from 6.5 to 8 kilometers. International experts question the profitability of such deposits.
The most perspective gas-and-oil fields in Tajikistan are Rengan, Sargazon, Kashkokum, Olimtoy, Yalgizkak and Supetau.
