DUSHANBE, November 1, Asia-Plus  — How low-cost technology solutions can be used to improve water and land management in Central Asia are the focus of an international two-day conference that started in Tashkent on October 31.  

According to the department for international relations of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection (MoAEP), Deputy Agriculture and Environmental Protection Minister, Abduvohid Karimov, and Rustam Latipov, the head of the MoAEP department for use and protection of nature, are representing Tajikistan at the conference, organized by Office of the Coordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities with support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources of Uzbekistan.

The conference, called “Main Challenges for Providing Environmental Security and Sustainable Development in the Region of Central Asia: Degradation of Land and Pollution of Soil”, has brought together researchers and experts from some 20 countries to discuss how technology can improve economic development and sustainable use of natural resources.

The main objective of the conference is to foster Central Asian cooperation and ownership in the area of integrated land and water resources management.
