DUSHANBE, November 1, Asia-Plus  — On Wednesday October 31, Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev, Chairman of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper house of parliament), met in St. Petersburg with his Russian counterpart Sergey Mironov, Speaker of Russia’s Federation Council.  

Shavkat Saidov, an aide to the Majlisi Milli head for public relations, told Asia-Plus that the two had discussed the results of Tajik-Russian Parliamentary Forum ”Russia-Tajikistan: Potential of Regional Coopertion” that was held in Moscow and Orienburg on October 17-20.

They expressed satisfaction with forum’s results and agreed that parliamentary cooperation is a good initiative to jointly tackle the existing problems, the aide said.

Ubaidulloyev and Mironov also discussed issues related to holding of the next parliamentary forum in Dushanbe in 2008. 

We will recall that Federation Council Speaker Sergey Mironov has been reelected the Chairman of the CIS Parliamentary Assembly in St. Petersburg.

The Assembly Council on October 30 approved election monitoring reports related to Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and Ukraine.  

The Assembly Council discussed the action plan for next year and the agenda of the Assembly session due in spring 2008.  A draft declaration of road safety was approved, as well. The draft will be put on vote at the international conference entitled “Road Safety for Safe Living” on November 1.

The Assembly Council also analyzed decisions made at the CIS summit in Dushanbe in early October.
