DUSHANBE, November 20, Asia-Plus  — Customs officers have seized more than 6.6 kilograms of heroin at the Khujand airport, northern Tajikistan, Tajik Customs Service told Asia-Plus Tuesday.  

On November 19, during inspection of passengers on the Khujand-Moscow flight local woman was detained on suspicion of having been involved in drug trafficking. 

The source at the Customs Service said that when checking her luggage, the customs officers revealed two heroin-impregnated ‘kurpacha’ (Tajik national quilts). 

“Specialists from the counternarcotics agency have managed to extract more than 6.6 kilograms of heroin from the quilts,” the source said.  

Criminal proceedings have been instituted on drug trafficking charges, and an investigation is under way.
