DUSHANBE, November 27, Asia-Plus — On Monday November 26, President Emomali Rahmon met in Dushanbe with Ms. Daria Bavdaz-Kuret (phonetically spelled), head of the European Union (EU) Working Group on East Europe and Central Asia, presidential press service said.           

In the course of the talks the president noted that Tajikistan is interested in further expansion of cooperation with the European Union and its member nations.  

During the meeting, the two discussed issues related to cooperation between Tajikistan and the European Union within the framework of the European Union’s Strategy for Central Asia, a progress of implementation of the BOMCA/CADAP Programs in Tajikistan, as well as directions of cooperation in the field of energy and formation of the regional energy market.  

Besides, the Tajik president and the EU official also considered the present situation in Afghanistan and a progress of reconstruction of Afghanistan’s economy as well as issues of preventing drug trafficking, according to presidential press service.  

The visit came in the wake of the EU”s Strategy for Central Asia, agreed in June, which focuses more European attention on Tajikistan and its neighbors.
