DUSHANBE, December 12, Asia-Plus  – Role of local Russian-language media in promoting development of Tajikistan will be focus of a two-day conference that will be held in Dushanbe on December 27-28.

The event, dedicated to the Year of the Russian Language, is organized by Russian-Tajik Slavonic University (RTSU) under support of Tajik Journalists’ Union and the Russian Embassy in Dushanbe.

Abdusattor Nouraliyev, the head of chair of journalism at RTSU, said that the conference is dedicated to sum up achievements reached during the Year of the Russian Language, which has been marked this year.

“Russian-language media play a considerable role in the country,” said Nouraliyev, “However, some local media, especially TV and radio, have reduced broadcast of Russian programs, and one of the main objectives of the upcoming conference is to seek solution to problems facing local Russian-language media.”

He also noted that the conference would adopt recommendations on elaboration of two joint Tajik-Russian projects in the field of media.

We will recall that on December 31 2006, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on holding the Year of the Russian Language in Russia and abroad in 2007.
