DUSHANBE, December 26, Asia-Plus  – A working group led by Agriculture and Environmental Minister Abdurahmon Qodiri today went to Khatlon’s Panj and Qumsangir districts.

Mirzosharaf Sharipov, a spokesman for the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection (MoAEP), said that the purpose of the visit is for the group to hold meetings with heads of local farming units to explain them opportunities and advantages of a new mechanism of financing dehqon (peasant) farms.  

The working group was set up last week and its members include representatives from banks, state-run insurance company, local authorities and heads of the district agriculture directorates, the spokesman said.   .

            “On December 25, the commission returned from its trip to the Sughd province, where it had held meetings with some 2,000 farmers from five cotton-growing districts of the province,” Sharipov said.  

Safar Mahmadiyev, the head of the economic policy department of the MoAEP, said that after Panj and Qumsangir the commission will visit the Kulob region of Khatlon.
