President urges to improve flood risk management system

DUSHANBE, February 4, Asia-Plus  – President Emomali Rahmon today held a meeting with participation of prime minister, deputy prime ministers, state advisers and senior representatives from president’s office, presidential press service said. 


Issues related to preparedness for the spring sowing campaign and improvement of the flood risk management system were focus of the meeting.


Tajikistan


is prone to frequent natural disasters because of its terrain and climate.  Floods are a particularly severe disaster risk because of the mountain nature of the country     


The meeting also considered measures to ensure proper implementation of a new mechanism of financing cotton-growing farms as well as regular work of educational and cultural facilities during the inter months.     

 The head of state set specific tasks to provide the population with electrical power, shift the Dushanbe and Yovon heat and power plants to coal, rehabilitate river bank protection works, provide cotton farmers with agricultural machines, fuel and mineral fertilizers, etc.  

The meeting also discussed a progress of preparations for celebrations to mark the 1150th anniversary of the founder of Tajik-Persian classic literature Abu Abdullo Rudaki, work to rehabilitate the head building of Tajik Medical University, which was seriously damaged by fire last December, and work to reconstruct the Dushanbe Opera and Ballet Theatre.
