Uzbekistan resumes electricity supplies to Tajikistan

Payrav Chorshanbiyev

DUSHANBE, February 13, Asia-Plus  — Uzbekistan has resumed electricity supplies to Tajikistan, according to the Uzbek Embassy in Dushanbe.

“On Monday, Uzbekistan Monday supplied 1 million kWh of electricity to Tajikistan,” said Mirodil Abdurazakov, the head of the consular section of the Uzbek Embassy.  “Yesterday, power supplies were increased to 2 million kWh of electricity per day.”

According to him, Uzbekistan suspended electricity supplies to Tajikistan on February 4 because unusually cold weather has led to a higher demand for power in Uzbekistan itself.

“Today the situation is gradually improving and we now have an opportunity to help our neighbors,” Uzbek diplomat said, noting that electricity supplies to Tajikistan will gradually increased.
