DUSHANBE, February 25, Asia-Plus —  Saturday evening, a group of armed persons fired at a building of the Khorog police directorate, a high-ranking official with the Ministry of Interior (MoI) told Asia-Plus on Monday.

According to him, a group of armed people numbering seven persons led by Mamadboqir Mamadboqirov, former commanders of one of frontier posts in the Murgab district, fired several times at the building of the Khorog police department.  They then burst into the building and beat one of duty officers, the source said.

He noted that a day before the incident, a group of Mamadboqirov gathered near the office of the Pamir-1 hydropower station in Khorog, expressing dissatisfaction with lack of electricity in their houses.  “Police officers asked them to calm and break up,” the source said.

He further added that it cannot be ruled out that it could be cause of the attack on the building of the Khorog police department.
