DUSHANBE, March 13, Asia-Plus  –  Closed joint-stock company ORIEN Insurance (insurance company) intends to engage in insuring Tajik labor migrants working in the Russian Federation in real earnest.

Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, the ORIEN Insurance director Iskandar Sharipov said that a program for insurance of labor migrants leaving for Russia was launched last year already.

“However, it was not in popular demand, and therefore, we have decided to get down to this matter this year in real earnest,” Sharipov said.   Insurance policies will be realized through air and rail booking offices, according to him.

Prices of the insurance policies depend on the currencies of contracts.  Thus, a three-month insurance policy for 50,000 Russian rubles (equivalent to some 7,000 somonis or $2,029) at risk costs 250 Russian rubles (RR).  One-year insurance policy for the same amount at risk will cost 950 RR (equivalent to 133 somonis or $38.5)

In 2007, ORIEN Insurance realized 500 insurance policies to labor migrants leaving for the Russian Federation.

Established on May 18, 2004, ORIEN Insurance now has more than 4,000 clients.   Last year, it collected 66 million somonis (more than $19 million) in premiums and paid 1.8 million somonis ($521,700).
