DUSHANBE, March 27, Asia-Plus  — The TB information-education campaign “I Can Stop Tuberculosis”, dedicated to a World Tuberculosis Day, will be held at the Jomi Complex in Dushanbe on March 28.

According to Saodat Qosimova, social mobilization and small grants coordinator at the Project HOPE in Tajikistan, the event is held on an initiative of Tajikistan’s Republican TB-Prevention Center and the Project HOPE under financial support of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (Global Fund) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The event is aimed to draw attention of community to TB problems and raise awareness level of the population, Qosimova said

She added that US Ambassador to Tajikistan, Ms. Tracey Ann Jacobson, and the Republican TB-Prevention Center Sadullo Saydaliyev will attend the event, which is expected to bring together more than 750 students and medical workers.

World Tuberculosis Day, held annually on March 24, commemorates the date in 1882 when Dr Robert Koch presented his discovery of the TB bacillus to a group of doctors in Berlin.
