DUSHANBE, March 28, Asia-Plus — Explanatory work carried out by officers from the Khatlon security directorate among the local population on voluntarily handing over weapons, which are a legacy of the country’s civil war, to the law enforcement agencies has yielded good results.
A source at the public relations center of the State Committee for National Security (GKNB) said that over three days (March 26-28) alone, local residents have voluntarily handed over four sub-machine-guns Kalashnikov, eight hand grenades F-1, one pistol, one carbine, two bayonets, a large number of bullets and other ammunition to the law enforcement agencies.
Criminal proceedings will not be instituted against those who hand over weapons voluntarily, the source said.
