DUSHANBE, April 1, Asia-Plus  — In January-February 2008, the external trade turnover of Tajikistan, including electric energy and natural gas, has amounted to $644.1 million, which is 14.3 percent of the January-February 2007 level or $540 million more, according to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MoEDT).  

            The overall trade balance remained negative and have amounted to $232.6 million over the report period.

Exports of goods in January-February 2008 has amounted to $215.7 million, which is 12.7 percent fewer than in the same period of last year.  Imports of goods into Tajikistan over the same two-month period has amounted to $448.4 million, which is 34.1 percent more than in January-February 2007.  

Over the report period, Tajikistan has had trade relations with 73 countries and its main trading partners were Turkey, Russia, the Netherlands, Iran, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and China.   

            Over the report period cotton-fiber exports have reduced by 7.4 percent, aluminum exports have reduced by 10.5 percent and export of mineral fertilizers has reduced by 15.5 percent. 

Over the first two months of this year, vehicles and equipment accounted for 27.2 percent of Tajikistan’s imports, and chemical products accounted for 18.4 percent goods imported into Tajikistan over the report period.
