KHUJAND, April 18, Asia-Plus — The Ukrainian Ambassador to Tajikistan, Mr. Vyacheslav Pokhvalsky, gave a press conference in Khujand on April 17 on the results of his three-day visit to the Sughd province.
Speaking to reporters, the Ukrainian Ambassador noted that his country was ready for expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation with Tajikistan in various fields. He, in particular, outlined sectors like mining, metal product supplies and launch of joint ventures on processing farm produce as areas as areas of which could drive the bilateral trade between the two countries.
According to him, Ukraine will consider the issue of using Tajik manpower and training of personnel for Tajikistan at its higher educational institutions.
“During a meeting at the Khujand airport, we discussed the possibility of opening air routes from Khujand to Kiev and Simferopol,” said the Ukrainian diplomat. “We could organize twice-weekly service on these routes and the flights could be operated by Ukrainian and Tajik air carriers.” These flights could be launched before the end of this year, according to him. “In 2007, 500,000 people flew from Khujand to Ukraine via Moscow,” the Ambassador said.
During his stay in Sughd, Mr. Pokhvalsky held talks with the Sughd governor Qohir Rasoulzoda and local entrepreneurs as well as visited a number of enterprises in Khujand and Qairoqqum and visited the Bobojonghafurov district.
