DUSHANBE, April 19, Asia-Plus  — Providing assistance to Tajikistan in developing the national border strategy was one of major topics of a meeting of Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (SCTO) Nikolai Bordyuzha with Ambassador Herbert Salber, Director of the OSCE Conflict Prevention Center, that was held in Moscow on April 17, according to the press service of the CSTO Secretariat.

In the course of the talks, the two discussed opportunities of technical equipping of border and customs checkpoints at the Tajik-Afghan border.

Nikolai Bordyuzha and Herbert Salber also exchanged views on the issues related to providing border security in the Central Asian region, in particular strengthening of borders between Central Asia’s states and Afghanistan and counteraction of drug smuggling from Afghanistan.  

They also detailed the issue of training of Afghan police officers in combating drug trafficking

Nikolai Bordyuzha underlined readiness of the CSTO member nations to provide assistance in the implementation of the OSCE projects on training the personnel in combating drugs trafficking.

The sides outlined a plan of mutual contacts and further steps in expanding CSTO and OSCE cooperation in Central Asia and Afghanistan.
