DUSHANBE, April 21, Asia-Plus  — The Islamic Revival Party (IRPT) is always ready for making compromise on some issues; however, it will remain firm in standing for spiritual values, the IRPT leader Muhiddin Kabiri announced at the party meeting in Dushanbe on April 19.

The meeting was dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the foundation of the Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan.

Mr. Kabiri’s statement delivered at the meeting focused “on thirty-five years of efforts and selfless fight on the way towards independence, peace and unity.”

According to him, getting over many difficulties, IRPT has turned into moderate and constructive opposition.  “Sometimes, we are being accused of not raising issues of the day, especially the economic problems,” said Kabiri.  “But it is not so.  The point is that the party directs its attention to all spheres of life of citizens; however, the IRPT gives priority to protection of spiritual and cultural values of the nation.”

Senior representatives of all Tajik political parties as well as diplomatic missions and international organizations active in Tajikistan attend the meeting.

Addressing the meeting, the British Ambassador to Tajikistan, Mr. Graeme Loten, noted that sometimes, not criticizing the government, political forces of Tajikistan want to show their intimacy with people and sense of patriotism.  “But, they are wrong I am afraid,” said the British Ambassador, “Patriotism is responsibility but not an attitude of indifference to the hard situation having emerged in the country.”  According to him, eight political parties functioning in Tajikistan failed to fulfill this mission during winter months, when the country was seriously affected by extreme winter weather and severe energy shortages.
