DUSHANBE, April 22, Asia-Plus  — A large pharmaceutical plant is expected to be built in Tajikistan before the end of this year, Health Minister Nusratullo Salimov announced at a press conference in Dushanbe yesterday.

According to him, the plant is being constructed under financial support of one of Russia’s largest pharmaceutical plant, which is providing $35 million to support this project.

With construction of this plant Tajikistan will not need to import all medicines from abroad, “because many of them will be produced inside the country.”

Commenting on counterfeit medicines, which are frequently occurring in drugstores across the country, the minister said that the republican center for medicine purchases that was established this year has made considerable contribution to provision of medical facilities with high-quality and affordable medicines.  The center has its branches in Sughd and Khatlon province.

According to the Ministry of Health (MoH), 4,168 kilograms of counterfeit medicines and 2,892 kilograms of counterfeit cosmetics have been destroyed in the country over the first three months of this year.
