Almaty April 24, Asia-Plus  — The Seventh Eurasian Media Forum (EAMF) started its work in Almaty, Kazakhstan today.   

The forum participants include leading journalists, political scientists and politicians from the different of the world, including President of the 62nd session of UN General Assembly Srgjan Kerim, known US political scientist known US political scientist Zbigniew Brzezinski, TV Channel Al-Jazeera producer Riz Khan, OSCE Secretary General Marc Perrin de Brichambaut, Effective Policy President Gleb Pavlovsky (Russia), Russia’s known TV reporter Mikhail Leontyev, etc.   

According to Ms. Dariga Nazarbayeva, Chair of the EAMF Organizing Committee, as usual, main events of international life and interpretation of them by media are a focus of the Eurasian media forum.  Many topical problems such as a new phase of confrontation between the West and Russia, problems of separatism in the light of declaration of independence of Kosovo, the role the media can play under conditions of bilingualism and clash of civilizations, phenomenon of the rapid-developing China, factors of risk for CIS and so forth have been tabled to the forum’s agenda.   

Addressing the forum, Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev noted that the world has not become safer over the past year – conflicts are going on, threats remain intact and are extending.   According to him, the world financial crisis, which threatened financial systems of many countries of the world, was the most severe test.  This makes all think whether there ought to be taken up with only one or two currencies in the world or create regional currencies, which could cooperate with each other, the president said.   

In the face of food and fuel crisis, increase in confrontation between the West and Russia, Islam and Christianity, rich North and poor South mankind should review prevalent priorities and values, Mr. Nazarbayev noted.   

Tajikistan is represented at the forum by Bahrom Kholnazarov, Tajikistan’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan, Saodat Olimova, chairperson of the sociological service at the Analytical Center Sharq, Umed Babakhanov, editor-in-chief of Asia-Plus.
