DUSHANBE, May 22, Asia-Plus  – A ceremony of signing of a Treaty on Partnership of Public Associations “From Legal to Actual Equality” was held at the Vefa Center in Dushanbe today.

Some 40 women’s NGOs signed the treaty today.

The main objective of the treaty is to strengthen contribution of public associations to fulfillment of recommendations of the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women and promotion of gender equality in the country.

Speaking at the treaty-signing ceremony, Ms Qimmatgul Aliberdiyeva, the deputy chairperson of the Committee for Family and Women’s Affairs, noted that the establishment of such a collation is of great significance for Tajikistan and this initiative should be supported by other organizations as well.

According to her, among the main directions of activity of the Coalition are enhancement of coordination of interaction between public associations and government institutions, monitoring and assessing gender policy, promoting improvement of laws, taking measures to promote women (training of women-leaders, women-politicians), development of female entrepreneurship, etc.

We will recall that Ms. Tatiana Bozrikova, the chairperson of the Public Foundation Panorama, told Asia-Plus on Wednesday that with support of the UNDP CO in Tajikistan and the department for constitutional rights of citizens within the President’s Executive Office, five regional roundtable meetings have been conducted to discuss issues related to the establishment of the coalition and constituent documents.  According to her, 97 organizations and groups on May 21 expressed readiness to join the partnership treaty.  “The treaty is supposed to be singed by all its members during May-June,” MS. Bozrikova
