DUSHANBE, May 26, Asia-Plus — The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MoEDT) has passed a resolution requiring doubling prices of water-sewerage services for the public.

The source at a MoEDT said that beginning on June 1, the price of water-sewerage services for the public will be set at rate of 1.7 somonis per one family member per month, while the current price of water-sewerage services for the public is 0.85 somoni.

The resolution setting new water prices was passed by the ministry on May 19.

“For the public, one cubic meter of drinking water will cost 0.1 somoni per month and the price of one cubic meter of water for sewerage services will be 0.54 somoni per month,” said the source.  “The consumption rate for drinking water is 10.8 cubic meters per months and for sewerage services is 11.4 cubic meters per month.”

The federally funded institutions will pay for drinking water at the rate of 0.3 somoni for one cubic meter per month and 0.19 somonis for one cubic meter of water for sewerage services, and the commercial enterprises will pay 0.75 somonis and 0.5 somonis respectively.

The MoEDT source said that the water prices had been raised because of considerable losses incurred by waterworks’ enterprises.
