DUSHANBE, May 28, Asia-Plus  — A three-day roundtable meeting formally titled “Prospects of Development of Information and Resource Centers” opened in Dushanbe on May 28.

The meeting is staged by the Republican Information and Documentation Center for Human Rights under the UNDP Enhancing Peace and Promoting Human Rights in Tajikistan Program with financial support of the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA). 

Ms. Sabohat Jumayeva, the chairperson of the Republican Information and Documentation Center for Human Rights, said that issues related to mobilizing community to protect human rights, creating a regional network of information and resource centers are a major topic of the meeting.

The meeting participants include representatives from Gorno Badakhshan, Khatlon and Sughd provinces, as well as districts subordinate to the center.  

On Wednesday, they discussed national mechanisms of protecting human rights as well as goals and principles of work of the information and resource centers.   

Ms. Jumayeva noted that the main objective of the meeting is to promote making the population well informed of human rights problems and help the government work out national education program for human rights.
