DUSHANBE, May 29, Asia-Plus — At the invitation of the British Embassy in Dushanbe a London-based reggae band called “Maroon Town” is coming to Tajikistan in early June to play two concerts and take part in a series of ‘jamming’ sessions and master-classes with musicians from this country, press released issued by the British Embassy in Dushanbe said.

This multi-racial band has its roots in the islands of the Caribbean Sea, and was formed in the London district of Brixton 14 years ago. They have since released four albums, which have met with great success internationally. The name ‘Maroon Town’ is taken from a remote upland community in Jamaica, formed by runaway slaves – the free and autonomous ‘Maroons’.

‘Maroon Town’s inspiring live act has been performed at prestigious venues and festivals all over Europe. In addition the band has toured Japan, Canada, Indonesia and in most of Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan) doing concerts and music workshops. More recently they have toured India and have performed in Ukraine and Brazil.

“Maroon Town” will be playing in a number of venues in Tajikistan from 10-14 June which will be open to the public at no charge. More details will be released by the British Embassy soon.
