KHUJAND, June 13, Asia-Plus  — An action against use of child labor was held in Khujand, the capital of Sughd province on the occasion of World Day against Child Labor on June 12.  

The action was staged by public association “Youth and Civilization” in partnership with pubic association “Right of Citizen”, the Khujand weekly

and Young Lawyers’ Association “Amparo” under financial support of the Commission fro Development of Democracy within the US Embassy in Dushanbe and International Labor Organization (ILO).     

The action was aimed at highlighting combating child labor through drawing attention of the public, media and government bodies to that problem.   Drawing contest and quiz on problems of child labor were organized among students of local schools.  

Besides to raise awareness level of the population the action organizers also plant to organize auto race along the cities of Khujand, Chkalovsk and Qairoqqum and the Bobojonghafurov district.  They also plan to send an appeal to the government of the country, MPs, chairmen of cities and districts and media asking for supporting actions aimed at combating child labor.

The action participants included human rights activists, representatives of NGOs and local authorities as well as media.
