DUSHANBE, June 14, Asia-Plus  — A London-based reggae band called “Maroon Town” will play concert at the 800th Anniversary of Moscow Square in Dushanbe today on June 14.

We will recall that at the invitation of the British Embassy in Dushanbe “Maroon Town” is planned to play two concerts and take part in a series of ‘jamming’ sessions and master-classes with Tajik musicians.

This multi-racial band has its roots in the islands of the Caribbean Sea, and was formed in the London district of Brixton 14 years ago.  They have since released four albums, which have met with great success internationally.  The name ‘Maroon Town’ is taken from a remote upland community in Jamaica, formed by runaway slaves – the free and autonomous ‘Maroons’.

‘Maroon Town’s inspiring live act has been performed at prestigious venues and festivals all over Europe. In addition the band has toured Japan, Canada, Indonesia and in most of Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan) doing concerts and music workshops. More recently they have toured India and have performed in Ukraine and Brazil.
