KULOB, June 14, Asia-Plus — The project for improving reproductive health through social marketing was launched in Kulob on June 12.
The project is implemented by PSI (Population Services International) in partnership with the Kulob NGO Nakoukor with funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, the Nakoukor head Bahodur Haitov said that the project, designed fro six months, is currently being implemented in Dushanbe as well as in Kulob, Rumi and Roudaki districts.
According to him, the project is aimed at expanding services on reproductive health and family planning through explaining significance of use of contraceptive means for improvement of the reproductive health, the harm caused by abortion, and the necessity of having a healthy lifestyle.
The project will train medical workers in providing first aid and consultations. Another important component of the project is to support drugstores’ network in rural areas. “After consultations with medical workers participating in the project, women will be able to purchase contraceptives at nominal prices because the spread will be covered by PSI,” Haitov said, noting that training of 2 medical workers will end on June 16 or 17.
