DUSHANBE, July 2, 2008, Asia-Plus — Issues related to cooperation between Tajikistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) and Italy’s Institute of External Trade were discussed at a meeting of the first deputy CCI head, Odil Sangov with Italian Ambassador to Tajikistan, Giovanni Riculli, and the director of the department for trade exchange development within Italy’s Institute of External Trade, in Dushanbe on July 1, CCI press service said.
During the meeting it was noted that economic relations between Tajikistan and Italy are less-developed and there is considerable room for expansion of economic ties.
The sides, in particular, considered issues related to cooperation in the filed of energy. The Italian side showed interest in participation in development of deposits of precious metals and precious and semi-precious stones in Tajikistan as well as construction of small hydropower plants in Tajikistan, the press service said.
They also noted that there are few processing enterprises both in industrial and agrarian sectors in Tajikistan. Italian guests noted that Italy has many enterprises working in those spheres and producing appropriate equipment and many problems could be tackled through launching joint ventures in Tajikistan.
The sides also discussed the possibility of holding of a series of seminars by specialists from the Italian Institute of External in Dushanbe.
The same day, Sangov met with Altamash Vazir khan of the Pakistani Embassy in Dushanbe to discuss issues related to holding of the ninth session of the General Assembly of CCIs of member nations of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) and the Second Pakistan’s Trade Fair in Karachi. The session will be held on July 24 and the fair will be held from July 23-28. The two also discussed holding of joint exhibitions and organization of business missions and individual travels.
