DUSHANBE, July 3, 2008, Asia-Plus  — On Friday July 4, Journalism Teachers’ Association, Jomea va Tamaddun (Society and Civilization), will host a roundtable meeting dedicated to present three journalism education programs.

The event is held under financial and organizational support of the Tajik Branch of Open Society Institute/Assistance Foundation (OSI/AF.  

Ms. Rukhshona Olimova, PR-specialists, OSI-Tajikistan, the meeting is aiming to discuss the education programs, developed within the framework of the Journalism Education Programs Development project, and make amendments to them. 

The Journalism Education Programs Development project is being implemented by Journalism Teachers’ Association with support of journalism lecturers from three Tajik universities – Tajik National University, Russian-Tajik Slavic University and Khujand State University.

According to Olimova, as part of the project, the Association has held the Second Seminar formally titled “Modern Methods of Teaching Journalism” for 20 journalism lecturers from all Tajik universities.  The seminar was conducted with help V. Oleshko, head of the department for modern periodicals within the Faculty of Journalism at Russia’s Ural State University.    

“On completion of the first phase of the project, three working groups have been set up for developing the education programs,” said the PR-specialist, “In early June, the education programs on the professional ethics for journalists, management and media, and legal foundations of journalists activities were discussed at the journalism departments.” 

Tomorrow’s meeting is expected to bring together journalism lecturers, representatives of media, relevant ministries and organizations, as well as diplomatic missions,  

Journalism Teachers’ Association, Jomea va Tamaddun, was established in December 2006 in an initiative offered by participants of the 2008 Summer School for journalism lecturers.  The Association is dedicated to promote improvement of journalistic education, introduction of innovative methods, preparation and standardization of textbooks and educational supplies on journalism.
