DUSHANBE, July 10, 2008, Asia-Plus –  The GBAO water economy directorate held a ceremonial meeting in Khorog yesterday to mark its 75th anniversary. 

Speaking at the meeting, Ms. Qobilamo Ghulomshoyeva, the chairperson of the GABO water economy directorate, noted that development of new lands, enhancement of use of arable lands and water resources are among priorities of the directorate activity.

She noted that since the beginning of this year, more than 100 hectares of new lands have been developed in the region and 972,000 somonis have been spent for improvement of land reclamation system and rehabilitation of the river bank protection works.

According to her, the water economy directorate in cooperation with the Asian Development bank (ADB) has started implementation of the project for improvement of 200 hectares of arable lands in the Rushan district.
