DUSHANBE, July 16, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Tajik natural-gas distributor, Tojikgaz, has started installing Chinese-made IC card gas meters in residential buildings in Dushanbe’s Zarafshon-2 area.     

According to Tojikgaz, the first bulk of the Chinese-made IC card gas meters was delivered to the country in late June.   

A three-year loan agreement between Dushanbegaz and China’s Beijing Jinchuang Combines Gas Meter Co., LTD for delivery of 20,000 IC card gas meters to Tajikistan was signed in China on May 16, 2008.    

 Tojikgaz officials had previously repeatedly stated that the IC card gas meters will be installed in residential buildings free of charge.  According to them, the price of such gas meter fluctuates from $60 to $70 and expenses will be covered quickly due to systematic collection of funds from the public.

In the meantime, according to residents of the Zarafshon-2 area, Tojikgaz specialists demand 15 somonis for installation of the gas meter.     

            Some 10,000 such gas meters are supposed to be installed in Dushanbe before the beginning of the heating season.
