DUSHANBE, July 19, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Deputy Agriculture Minister, Mahmoud Qodirov, told journalists on July 18 that over the first six months of this year, Tajikistan has exported 77,369 tons of fruits and vegetables, including 5,000 tons of canned fruits.  

According to him, this year’s fruit exports have exceeded the January-June 2007 level by 1,152 tons or 46.7 percent.  For example, sweet-cherry exports have exceeded the January-June 2007 level two times, amounting to 173 tons, and export of watermelons, melons and gourds has increased by 84.4 percent compared to the same period of last year, the deputy minister said.    

According to the sate phytosanitary and quarantine service, 184,186 tons of products, including more than 34,000 tons of dried fruits, have been exported from Tajikistan in January-June 2008.
