DUSHANBE, July 22, 2008, Asia-Plus — As it had been reported earlier, during his trip to Gorno Badakhshan, President Emomali Rahmon on July 19 met with a group of Khorog residents who had previously filed complaints to the government.

Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus by phone, Imomnazar Imomnazar, one of informal leaders of Khorog, said on July 21 that during the meeting, they had exchanged views in a frank manner on the current situation in the region.  

According to him, he, in particular, brought the issue of poor living conditions of the population, corruption among the local law enforcement agencies  and some other problems to the president.

“For his part, President Emomali Rahmon said that all necessary measures are being taken to solve these problems and noted that any problems should be tackled through dialogue in the atmosphere of mutual understanding,” Imomnazar said, adding that they assessed the meeting as positive and expressed hope that agreements reached at the meeting will be realized.  

            He noted that local informal leaders Tolib Ayombekov and Navoi Khoushachinov had also attended the meeting.
