DUSHANBE, August 7, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Tajik Journalists’ Union (TJU) and the Drug Control Agency (DCA) at the President of Tajikistan announce the republican competition “Say NO to Drugs” among journalists of print and electronic media. 

According to the TJU secretariat, the goal of the competition is to promote development and active involvement of mass media in Tajikistan and increase professional skills of journalists from radio and TV companies in covering issues of drug abuse and information about living a healthy life.

The source at a TJU said that the contest, conducted under the aegis of the Raising Public Awareness of Detriment of Drug Consumption and Planning Measures to Prevent Drug Consumption among Youth project, which is implemented by the UNDP Co Tajikistan under financial support of the European Union, is an important event, providing incentives for print and electronic media to prepare socially significant materials and programs related to the problems associated with drug consumption and solutions to this problem.

All republican, regional, city and district print and electronic media are invited to participate in the contest.  Only works published or broadcast during the period from January 1 to September 30 this year may participate in the competition, according to the TJU.
