KHUAJND, August 15, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Jeans exports of the Khujand-based closed joint-stock company (CJSC) SATN have increased by 10 percent this year, the SATN director general Ilhom Boboyev said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

Italian CARRERA owns 100 percent of shares in this company.

According to Boboyev, jeans, shirts and jackets produced by SATN are delivered to Italy from there they will be exported to other European countries.

“We are doing all in our power to hold our ground on this market; however, because of last year’s electricity supply problems our constant partners reduced purchases of our products and we had to re-cater for producers in China, India and Bangladesh,” said Boboyev, “To avoid such a situation in the future, we try to predict the situation and we now renew range of our goods twice a year.”

He noted that the enterprise currently processes 4,000 tons of cotton fiber per day, producing 3,000-3,500 products.  In the first half year of 2008, 98 percent of SATN’s products have been exported to other countries.

Over the first six months of this year, SATN has manufactured 234,000 products for a total amount of some 4.6 million somonis, the director general said.

SATN is the only enterprise in Tajikistan that produces jeans.  577 persons now work with the enterprises, and an average monthly wage is 376 somonis.
